In the winter of 2019, I decided that I would work towards being a full time freelance consultant. After a long period of going with the most, or only, immediately viable option, I had a moment of rest, when I could give myself the luxury of choosing a path, mindfully and selectively. This business is a result of that moment.

I believe that the best way I can making a living, doing work that I believe in, is by serving my community to the best of my abilities, having faith that my community will sustain me to the best of theirs.

  • I commit to the work I do wholeheartedly. I avoid work that I can not stand behind with a clear conscience.
  • I use a contract, even for seemingly minor, mundane work in the interest of clarity and stability for me and my clients.
  • I charge for my services to support myself, so that I can continue doing work I truly believe in. My priority is sustenance not profit.
  • I charge for my services on an hourly rate, taking into consideration the intensity of labour and the degree of expertise I need to apply.
  • I maintain clear lines of communication and get regular feedback from my clients, to ensure I am meeting their needs, and constantly improving.
  • I take time to understand the specific needs of my client.
  • I account for the differences in currencies and economies across countries, using the principle of Purchasing Power Parity, and the Big Mac Index as a guide, to present a reasonable price for all clients, and my own sustenance.
  • I prioritize social equity and justice in selecting my work, and in how I do my work. My education and writing practices use the lens of post-colonialism to honour and empower people of all identities, particularly those of marginalized communities.
